Albert attended the University of Alberta, graduating in 1928, and then returned and managed the family farm until 1953. That year he became the General Manager of the Alberta Wheat Pool and moved to Calgary. Other positions he held included President of the Glenbow Alberta Institute, President of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, member of the General Hospital Board, member of the University of Alberta Senate, and member of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
