The Royal Bank had its Calgary headquarters in this building from 1955 until 1970. The building was designed by the bank's chief architect, Edward P. Warren, and Jack Cawston was the local associate.

In 1968 the Royal Bank began construction on a new 24-storey tower a block away (see here), which opened in June of 1970.
