In 1956 the provincial government built this new office to house the Alberta Petroleum and Natural Gas Conservation Board, which had previously been located at 514 11 Avenue SW. In April 1957 the department changed its name to the Oil and Gas Conservation Board.


The building was initially two storeys, and in 1962 an additional three storeys were added.
